Leadership Development Course-8 (LDC-8)

Purpose:
To educate officers of Lodges and any other Brother interested in improving himself in Freemasonry and in improving his leadership skills for all walks of life. It is recommended that this course be taken by every Freemason who aspires to carry out the mission of the Craft – to make good men better. The emphasis is on leadership skills because every brother is a leader by virtue of the fact that he is a Freemason. Other courses are offered by Grand Lodge to enhance a brother’s understanding of what it is to be a Freemason. Among them are LSOME, MDC and RTTE.

Overview:
Lesson One emphasizes the need to start by knowing your product. Our product is Freemasonry. The Philosophy, History & Power of the Craft are discussed. 12 Reasons for being loyal to the Craft are outlined.

Lesson Two outlines in depth the duties & responsibilities of each Lodge Officer.

Lesson Three deals with motivational skills and team building. These are basic elements for a good leader to posses.

Lesson Four outlines basic fundamentals of oral communication skills

Lesson Five outlines fundamentals of written communication skills

Lesson Six discusses program planning and program ideas. A Back to Basics concept points to the need for Lodge programs to deal with study and the involvement of each brother in providing programs designed to Educate, Inspire, Excite, Interest and turn On the brothers.

Lesson Seven presents the structure and function of Grand Lodge, its hierarchy and its committee structure.

Lesson Eight is a discussion of the various Masonic Charities.

Procedure:
The LDC-8 can be offered in a variety of formats. It has been upgraded from the original program and has been tested for two years in seminar formats. Not any one format may be the best for all Districts or Lodges to use. Some options listed in order of effectiveness are:

  1. Offered individually via the internet either via email or via the MUNY web site.
  2. In Districts at District Officers meetings offering two lessons per night for four nights. (These ideally should be one hour sessions per lesson. Answers should be submitted to the instructor via email and answers/comments returned to the student via email.)
  3. Within a Lodge communication as a part of the education program or at a special communication of one or more Lodges called for that purpose.
  4. Other options are unlimited. One District plans to offer the course on one or two weekends (from 9AM to 3PM for two days with a light lunch at noon.)

Every Brother taking the course should have access to the 24-Inch Gauge Masonic Resource Guide.
